Sacrificial anode?

My lower unit on my 115 is a bit of a Frankenstein and has no sacrificial anode. First I will explain how I got there. A few years back while on vacation I hit a dredge pipe and knocked a hole in the gearcase of my 98 crossflow 115. In order to keep fishing I found a lower unit on craigs list, the mechanic that had it said it was off of a 96 looper but it would bolt up ok. I had to switch out the shift rod but it did bolt up fine. Later I heard some rattling while running across the bay and upon investigating I found out the drive shaft on that model looper is 3/4 inch shorter than the shaft of my crossflow. When I got home a neighbor had a lower unit from a 1980 crossflow. I took the gearcase from the 1980, installed the gears and drive shaft from my 98 and used some of the bearings and seals from the looper. In other words I created a monster. It worked fine though. The only problem is the 80 gearcase does not have a sacrificial anode.

This brings us to my current problem, how to add an anode to that 80 gearcase. I was told a while back that I could get a generic anode and bolt it to the cavitation plate. I just want to make sure I get a good one. Have any of you added an anode to one of these 1980 gearcases and can you suggest a good one I might purchase?

Re: Sacrificial anode?

Let me go back and readress my explaination on how this Frankenstein of a lower unit got created. It wasn't that the driveshaft was 3/4 inch too short it was that the looper crankcase was deeper which made the driveshaft come up short. I actually used the driveshaft out of the looper with the gears from the 98 crossflow and the gearcase from the 80 crossflow. I forgot to mention the pinion gear had broken off of the 98 driveshaft.
LOL told you it was a Frankenstein of a lower unit.
