Does anyone know how far down the plywood goes between the inner and outer aluminum skins on a 1970's Lund S-14? I'm planning to turn my 15" transom into a 20" transom. I have the top cap off and all the "pop rivets" out, but I have not removed any of the solid rivets.

The big question now is,... will the plywood come out now, or do ALL the rivets need to come out.

Or, since the plywood is still good and solid, should I put the transom cap back on and build an external transom extension for the new long shaft motor?

A typical way to raise the transom is to put an aluminum plate on the inside and outside of the transom, then sandwich a piece of plywood between them. This way you don't need to do much to the existing structure.
