Well it is finally out. Lots of soaking in BP Blaster. After I got the little gap in it I was able to get a rock chisel wedged in there to separate it a little more. With a bigger gap I was able to get a large screw driver to wedge it all the way out. The scariest part was trying not to hit or damage the block. I will just clean up the block with a wire brush and intall the new starter. Thanks to all and hope this may help others in the future. On to try and get the gimbal bearing out. The 5 pound slider hammer is not quite doing it.

Been following the thread......5 days later it finaly came loose......

Grats on getting it off with no damage to the block!

You are a fighter not a quiter..........

Use threaded rod!:facepalm:

Yeah Pete I read about that in some other posts so I am going to try and rig that up tonight. I have a 1/4" steel plate that looks like it will work as the backing plate.
