Re: Rust-Oleum EPOXYShield Garage Floor Coating good or bad for boat floors?
I used it in my garage and painted an old utility trailer with it and it has held up well. Its been on the floor for about 3 years and on the trailer for two, both look good, the floor shows some wear in heavy traffic areas but it hasn't lifted. I used the half gallon that I had left to paint an old trailer I had that was looking pretty rough, I just wiped it down with gas, knocked off the loose paint and rust and covered it with two or three thick coats. It sits out back, outside and it don't look any different now then it did when I first did it. (I actually mixed several colors together so I had enough to cover the trailer several times with all one color. I mixed some blue, some gray, and some black all together and it came out sort of an aqua color with a hint of gray. A buddy of mine said it looks like Pontiac engine blue. I didn't care what the color was, anything was better than rust and old orange paint. So as far as UV resistance, it seems fine, I believe they list walkways and sidewalks too as a possible application?
On a boat, I'd use a gray or medium color, white reflects to much back on you on a hot day and its too hard to keep clean. I like the gray for boat floors and interiors.
A buddy of mine has been using it for a few years on his deck, I think he'd rather repaint than clean. He does it a few times a year. He's probably got 20 coats on that boat, all with no anti-slip additive. It's like a skating rink when wet. The original floor was textured, but not anymore.
I use glass beads and sifter or put them in the last coat if I do more than one. Grip tape works well too buts it's expensive and hard to clean.
