Rust in OMC portable tank

I have been trying to remove rust deposits in my metal tank. Tried the chain without much luck. Tried a bunch of clean nuts and bolts..not much luck. There doesn't seem to be any more rust coming free although there is still lots of rust deposit on the bottom and sides. Would it be O.K. to just leave the rust as it is and install an inline gas filter between the tank and the squeeze bulb? Would the inline filter do the trick or not. Thanks, Rick.

I had great luck one time with a motorcycle gas tank using the tank sealer kits from the local autoparts store. It was a grey goop that you put in there after you got it clean and dry as you can. Then you tip the tank around and up side down until you have coated the whole interior. It worked great for a number of years after that. It even had some pin holes in it that I had sealed with JB weld prior to the coating, and that held up very well also.

I don't think there would be any harm in adding an inline fuel filter until then. Just keep an eye on it to prevent it from getting clogged.

I think you'd be fine with the filter, just carry a spare

Sounds like it's worth a try. The tank has no real value the way it sits right now. Would you have any idea as to how long the process might take? A few hours or more than a day? Rick.
