I have a 70 hp (1980), ran great, picked up water in onboard tank - then ran rough at wot - but smooth at lower speed. Then today after running 45 minutes out slow, it ran fine coming back. Do the carbs hold water in bottom? What do I need to do to have confidence that motor will run well next time out?

Re: Runs Rough

Remove the float bowl drain plugs and flush the system using the primer bulb, purge fresh fuel through the system. Check your fuel first with a clear glass jar for any water.

Could be water or rust/sediment. Pull bowl flush and try again.

Re: Runs Rough

If you're running ethanol, it will take care of casual water. If not, add an appropriate amount of 'HEET' to your tank. If water is, indeed, the culprit, it shoulkd resolve itself soon ...

Re: Runs Rough

If you have to use an additive don't use "HEET". Use something like Blue Stabil or Startron. They are recommended for marine use. Heet was used many yrs ago when we didn't have ethanol fuel and was mainly alcohol which prevented gas line freezing "Up Nort".
