Im no 10 yr pro but it only makes sense to run it once in a while to me unless u winterize it !!! if i lived up north id winterize being that i dont i dont however sometimes i have if it starts getting to cold, this is usually in jan-feb. but i store my boat outside with a blanket over the motor and two tarps... I dont know whats going on this year lol !! I just been running it the last mnth but i like to and it gives me sumn to do .. Nutn like hearing that two stroke roar ... Mine is a 65 merc 650 i have faith it will last me another 5-10yrs maybe longer !!! If not ill do a ovehaul ....

you don't winterize an outboard.
Some people would treat it for storage (drain carbs, fog, etc.) but if you did, you wouldn't run it periodically.
One or the other.

One or the other.

I always change the lower unit gear oil in case water has gotten in... gets cold here in PA in the winter....common practice.
