I just picked up a 650 thunderbolt 3 cylinder I ran the motor in a garbage can with no problems. I took it for a test ride last night and the motor lost power and shut off. I checked on it and it was extremely hot. I pretty sure the water pump impeller is my problem. I then swam the boat in and pulled plugs with i am sure are as old as the boat the top plug has a little texture to it.. Hopefully. I didnt blow the top cylinder? Anyone with any advice would be great..

Re: running hot

Hi,

Your top piston probably started to burn the deflector away on the top of the piston. Pull the exhaust jacket plate off and take a look see. This is the large cover on the port side of the engine. Some of the screws may be corroded in so be a little careful when removing them. Drop the LU for a new impeller.
