Running anti- freeze?

i read on another forum that its a good idea to run anti-freeze through the outboard for winterizing.
Good idea ?
If so, one way I thought to do it was, to put it in a large bucket with water, and run the lower unit in it.

yes that would work fine, as long as your t-stat opens and lets the water through the block

one way is to take the t-stat out and run for like 5-10 mins at idle

Why would you even want to do it? The motor is self draining. There shouldn't be any water in it to freeze. Just make sure there is no water in the lower unit gearcase.

I have to wonder at that as well F_R.

Even if you store your boat outside, the whole motor should be dry in the running position.

Still, I'm always willing to learn!

Very hard task first of all for engine to suck the antifreeze into motor. After you shut engine down, it will all come out? Right to the exact ounce. it is not recomended for outboards. Only inboard stern drives.

Waste of time, does nothing for the motor, plus you will end up with most of it on the ground, and its toxic
