The mod # of my broken unit is E40DTLABA I'm aware of the different gear ratios. If I fix this thing I will probably have to get the right prop for it. I'm ok with that.Gear ratio is different between a 1990 model and much newer motors.-----You have to be very careful when swapping newer parts into an older gearcase.----Model # on the motor that hit the rock.-----I tell folks that a GPS unit to tell you where the rocks might be is very cheap !!!
I appreciate your knowledge and decades of experience. Having worked in the trades for almost 30 years I have an appreciation for people that get their hands dirty. But sometimes I don't quite know how to take one of your posts, or better, not quite sure how to interpret it. Sometimes it seems that your speaking in code or something, or answering questions that I didn't ask. And I don't mind at all if someone is blunt. As long as I'm gettin it. While I don't have tons of experience in O/Bs I am pretty mechanically inclined. I've replaced crankshafts, valves, piston ,rings, repaired transmissions in ATVs and dirt bikes, cars and trucks. And, I've had boats going back to my first in 1985/86. And I've always fixed em, maintained them myself. This is the first gear case that I've busted up, tho. LOL
Anyway, in your opinion, am I wasting my time trying to fix this thing? Oh, an honest question, how does a GPS tell you where rocks are that are 2' below the surface and hundreds of feet from dry land? I have a GPS and it doesn't do that.
