A Single Six is generally a fixed sight model. The Super Single Six is an adjustable sight model. The "Convertible" model has both a .22 LR and .22 mag cylinder. To add to the confusion there are old models (3 screw) and new models (2 screw with safety transfer bar) available.
May of the convertible models can be found missing the mag cylinder (like yours). People tend to lose them because they are seldom used.
And even another phenomenon is that Ruger offered free safety upgrades to the old model. They sometimes sent the old parts back, but typically the consumers merely tossed them away.
An unmolested old model with box and papers might go for $700, but the new models can be had easily for $500. An upgraded old model without the 2nd cylinder bought online at Gun Broker might go for as low as $400. It may be safer to use but the collector's value is not much.
Magnum cylinders are serial numbered to the gun, but in many cases they work just fine without the need for a smith to adjust timing, etc.
The new Wrangler model is an awesome choice, but as yet its not set up for magnums. The cylinder and barrel are steel, but the other parts are zinc and aluminum, which accounts for the lower price.
Ruger's web site has a link to research the serial number to determine the mfg date.
