Rubber plug on trim tab important?

Hi, newbie here, while I was changing the flat trim tab on my alpha one gen II outdrive, I have to remove a black rubber plug on the top to get access to the bolt. Unfortunately I could not find the rubber plug anymore after I set aside it. Is it critical for the hole to be blocked by this rubber plug, or it does not matter at all. If it does, what size or where can I get a replacement. Thanks!

Welcome aboard.

If you look at Mercury outboards and Mercruisers at the ramp, you will hard pressed to find one. Most are long gone and not needed except for those inquisitive kids.
