Hello,
First time poster, long time reader. I've been rebuilding this larson from the hull up since december. Now I am trying to find a rub rail that will fit into the aluminium siding for this boat. I have tried looking at taco marine's rub rail options. There is one there that i could make fit, but it is only available in black. All the other sites/local companies that I seen selling rub rails get theirs from taco marine. Is there no other rub rail company?

Here is a picture of the aluminium siding.

The space between the top and bottom ledges is 1 1/4 inch and the width of the half circle in the middle is near 5/8 inch.

I still have parts of the old rub rail here is another photo of a piece of it inserted into the aluminium siding.

Once the boat is complete (hopefully in 2 weeks), I plan to post all of my photos throughout the rebuild.

Please respond if you have any advice. Also, I have considers sealing the vinyl to the aluminium, so getting the vinyl the goes into the small areas isn't too big of a deal.

Thank you,
Davin

Taco is your best shot. You could try and find an old boat junkyard and look around for a similar rub rail, but that is a very very long shot. Since money may be an option (i know when I priced rub rail it was $300-400) you could just buy some self etching primer spray paint along with some white spray paint. It will not be as good as the new one, but it will get you through to the next season. I did something similar with mine except I put black truck bed liner on the aluminum after sanding out the dents/dings. We will see how it holds up.

I'm taking my rub rail insert down to West Marine to see if they can match it. Maybe give that a try.

Thanks for the replies. Barbour plastics also had a wide variety of vinyl inserts but, again not in white. Thanks for the spray paint idea. It may be my only shot.

West Marine had a long string of sample taco vilnyl inserts. There were many varieties so I'm sure you'll have good luck.

In addition to Taco and Barbour Plastics, I also stumbled upon Wefco Rubber Manufacturing. They seem to have a piece that will work for my rub rail!
I've searched the forums for a list of companies that make rub rail inserts, but did not find any. Perhaps that might helpful for others if there were a complete list of companies stickied somewhere.
