Re: RPM's

Hi Steelspike..
Thank you for replying.
I have a 1999 130 hp Johnson outboard. Motor fine at high and low speeds..When you bring the throttle down alittle below 4,000 RPM's the engine slows down immediately to 2,500 RPM's as if you throttled the boat down yourself.
One carb was rebuilt, cylinder head checked and shown to be OK..it was not replaced.Linkage, fuel filter and throttle assembly all checked out OK.
Work was done by a factory trained OMC mechanic.
Thanks for any input you can give me.

Re: RPM's

Symptoms point to crud in the carbs. Get the OMC shop manual & do it yourself. Not that difficult.

Re: RPM's

Have you cleaned the fuel system on the boat/replaced the fuel filters etc.If you clean out the carbs & not the fuel system as well as soon as you run the engine you are going to suck in more crud!!

Re: RPM's

Why in the world would you rebuild only one carb? What do you mean by "cylinder head checked and shown to be OK"?

If one carb needed attention so do the other three. Start there and then we can go on to checking the ignition under a load.

Good luck!
