RPMs at idle

Hey guys what is the normal RPMs supposed to be at during idle at normal operating temp? Where is the RPM sensor located on this engine. I have a 1987 Baretta with a 175hp mercrusier V6. Thanks, o and this is for the netrual position

Moved this over to the Mercruiser forum for you. The idle should be 650-700 rpm.

I have a 1988 v6 4.3 and my original mercruiser maintenance book says idle speed of 650 to 700 while in forward gear. My idle in neutral is around 950
