I am rebuilding the dashboard on my Islander and bought an Artilaura rpm gauge. The directions say to connect the rpm signal wire to the negative side of the coil.I have an AC Delco est ignition and coil. I have no good idea where the negative side of the est coil is. Any help is appreciated . Thank you, Cornelis.

This should help, it's a 3.0 but wiring is the same, note the Gray wire

That's how I had the old analog rpm gauge hooked up and it worked fine, with this new one it goes straight to 6000 rpm the moment I start the engine. I'll hook up a dedicated wire and check if the wiring is alright. It's just that the directions are to connect the rpm signal wire to the negative side of the coil and that is where I get lost

For the gauges, Grey is the tach (signal), black is batt neg B- and purple is power/ignition batt positive B+. Grey wire comes off the coil neg (or on the more sophisticated ignitions, the tach terminal) for the tach signal.

Are you sure that is the way the back of the tach is connected? Did yoy set the select switch on the tach to the proper setting (# of cyl's) for your engine?

The dedicated wire cleared up the problems. As for the Artilaura tach gauge,.. I should have stuck with Faria.
