I was in the UK for a management team meeting earlier this week. On Tuesday night we learned that the guy I am temporarily replacing in Houston, Todd, is going through an unimaginable tragedy. We are still close to him as he now runs one of our supplier's shop. Anyway, the night after Christmas, his 20 YO son, Matthew, was having a bonfire party on their front lawn to celebrate the State Football Championship won by his Alma mater Katy High School. Anyway, he was home from college for the Holidays, and apparently an unwanted guest arrived and after he asked him to leave the 15 year old POS came back with some friends and fatally stabbed Matthew and injured two others. Matthew died right there on the front lawn and I am sure that Todd probably was there and witnessed his oldest bleed to death.
I can't get this out of my head as I have a son of the same age, who would have the same type of party and I guess could attract the same POS and also would ask him to leave . . .
News Story
Well that's just the half of it . . . Yesterday morning (Thursday) in the UK, my cell phone rings at 4:30 AM. It's Mrs. QC and she is crying. Well those of you with kids and that travel for business will know that a phone call from home is always worrying, especially at 4:30 AM, and she does know what time it is there . . . She is crying so bad I can't understand her. Finally I get it out of her that one of our good friend's wives was diagnosed with cancer all over her body. They give her one to two weeks Great lady (Stacey), three kids, great husband (Bob). They were High School sweethearts. We have boated together some, and we just went to Genesis a few months ago with them and had a blast. My oldest went to school with their oldest, my youngest goes to school with their youngest etc. We have even vacationed together a few times, and Bob thanks me almost everytime I see him for showing him the way into the Grand Canyon. Mrs. QC and Stacey talk every day at the bus stop and they live just around the corner from us, so pretty close friends.
Apparently she has been hiding a lump she found in her breast and has never had a mammogram . . . She is probably 45ish. They missed our Xmas party as she was in bed with a "bad back". Turns out the cancer is in her spine, liver, brain lesions etc. I am also feeling pretty guilty cause when Mrs. QC finally blurted it out, I was actually relieved as it wasn't one of us . . .
Prayers and thoughts for Todd and Stacey would be appreciated. We definitely need a miracle for Stacey!
