I'll bet you can use all the trim range without blowing out too. I'd strongly urge going up with the motor. Better yet, while you have the motor loose to raise it, slip a jackplate in between.
Thanks so much for the help. I'll try that. One more guestion about the gas bulb not getting hard when trying to prime could this have caused some of my problems? I went ahead and replaced it any way.
It should get reasonably firm. If the anti-siphon valve is leaking or missing it could have something to do with it. We'll assume the carbs are not flooding over. If it gets enough fuel to start then it should be OK as far as pulling fuel. When the motor is running the bulb won't be as firm as it was when it was pumped by hand (fuel is flowing).
will try that thanks. could the gas bulb not firming when priming caused part of the idling problem? Also how do you raise rpm, with changing of the prop or is there an adjustment?
The idle speed is changed by advancing or retarding the timing. There should be an arm under the flywheel on the starboard side. Loosen the lock nut and make you adjustment then retighten. Do not change the total advance stop screw.
