Rough Noise When Engage Throttle

I have a 88 85hp Force outboard. I recently had the lower unit removed and a new gasket set put on. When I move the throttle to engage the gears, the first few seconds it has a really rough sound. It almost sounds like the gears aren't lining up. Could they have caused additionally problems when they were reinstalling the gear gasket set?

Faster, more forceful on the throttle. It should clunk into gear. Slow grinding will wear out/round off the cogs.

Ok, is there a repair that should be done? That is that I was doing yesterday, was a fast push on the throttle and every thing was fine. But I worry that doing over time will cause damage.

Nature of the beast. Repairs will be needed when it starts popping out of gear.
