Re: rough/no idle

seems that you are right, what i thought was the fuel pump is actually the primer solenoid. feel like an idiot now. but anyways. i pulled this primer apart and the internals are melted. so i assume its stuck on ALL the time. thats why when i squeeze the bulb gas comes out. gas should not just fly out of this all the time correct? how does this primer normally operate?

Re: rough/no idle

It should only squirt when key is depressed or the valve is turned to open.

Open is the red switch pointing away from solenoid.

Re: rough/no idle

it was spraying in both positions, what position should that valve be in normally? Depressed key? you mean it sprays when i dont press the key in to choke the motor? so basically in all running conditions except choking it sends gas to the manifold?

Re: rough/no idle

Nope when you depress key ie turning on choke it sprays. Otherwise it should be silent. Dont run engine with hose disconnected as you will lean out the cylinder.

In regards to your above question switch should be in closed position

Re: rough/no idle

would your advise be to rebuild the unit or replace? the whole thing is showing issues. I think replacing whole unit is the way im going to go. will report back once i can get the parts. Seems its stuck open, spewing gas all the time causing a full choke issue.

does iboats sell the part? believe it should be OEM 0437232

I boats should sell it, i dont know what part # sorry.
But yes buy a whole new unit, you dont want incorrectly installed replacement mechanisms being shot into crankcase

Re: rough/no idle

Do a search in the iboats store for this and use the quotes "Johnson Service Valve kit" and you can rebuild it.

Re: rough/no idle

could i plug up the line that goes to this solenoid and still operate the motor until the new solenoid arrives? its backordered so wont be seeing it for a little while. will it do any damage to not have it?

Re: rough/no idle

Yeah thatl be fine, block up the solenoid hose that leads from the motor too, otherwise itl suck air into the engine and run lean

Re: rough/no idle

the choke wont work now correct? or does the choke and the primer solenoid work together?

Re: rough/no idle

correct- as choke is the solenoid.
Get someone to hold something over three quarters of the carbs throat to act as the choke plate or spray some premix in just before (or even better during )start up
