Upon closer inspection of the hull i just bought I found that the drain at the transom had failed at some point and leaked water into the transom wood. i stuck a screw driver in there and pulled out what looked like brown mashed potatoes. Having never done this type of work before, i need some insight into how to separate the top-side from the lower hull.

It is a 1968 Sea Star Falcon Fiberglass Tri-hull. i would like to show more pics but they won't upload. what is the best way to insert pics?

Re: Rotten Transom!

best way to uplaos pics is to set an account with a site like photobucket.com add your pics there, resize them to 640 x 480. each photo will have a link beside it ex. img code. insert this code in your iboatd thread.

Welcome to iboats, and hope this helps.

As far as removing the cap, your boat has a rub rail around it. remove the rubber insert by pulling it out. underneath the rubber insert is a series of screws or rivets or both. remove these by unsrcrewing or drilling out with the same size bit.

next the aluminum rail itself should come off. it may have some adhesive on it.

may have to pry the cap and the hull apart a little. then start to lift the cap off. (may have to have some friends over if you don't have a lift) walla separation.

I did this to my first boat earlier this year and it wasn't too hard.

Good luck

sail on.... tink
