Re: ROTTED OUT FLOOR BOARD

you may have to take up the whole floor. check the stringers underneath to see if their also bad. if their rotted you'll have to replace them. also see if the foam is wet. if it is you'll have to replace it. it's a nasty job & time consuming but you'll save a lot of $$$ if you do it yourself. is it a i/o or an outboard? post again what u find & we'll go from there.

Re: ROTTED OUT FLOOR BOARD

Welcome to iboats. You'll find most of the users here are just like you. They actualy ENJOY taking a piece of floating junk, and turning it into floating pride. It doesn't matter how old you are (until you are rippin that deck up).
How bad is it? Does the deck feel spongy under foot?
How about the transom? Is it solid?
I know you have hatch covers that have had wood around the hinges go, but does the rot go much further?
If it hasn't spread far from the hinge screws, it's a whole ot easier to repair, and you won't need to rip the entire deck out, and I can explain how to do that,if this is the case.

Welcome Polo, Try doing a web search for a site, I think it is called rotdoctor.com, it is a guy who sells epoxy, resins etc. and he has a load of info on repairs with diagrams. You can even ask him a question and he will reply, he has helped me replace much rotted wood on my beautiful 21yr old Seacraft...Mark

Re: ROTTED OUT FLOOR BOARD

if the foam underneath is wet you'll have to remove it & let it dry out completely. if u leave it any repairs u make to the floor will be wasted as the water from the foam will eventually wick up through the floor & rot it out again. i redid the floor & stringers on my 19fter last spring. i removed any wet foam that i found & let it dry out in the sun. probably not what u wanted to hear, but the only way to find out for sure what's going on below is to pull the floor. i had a small soft spot on my floor also. once i started cutting i found the bad stringers. i thought i could get away with a small repair, it turned into a major job. hope i never have to do it again!
