Just so we don't hijack racefan's post, I moved it here.
Those pins brand new fit in the bushings in the drive very tight, as did the bushings into the drive in the H bracket. Seems way too tight to be in salt water. I didn't use the grease Volvo sends with them, I have been using the Mercruiser "Anti-Corrosion" grease for pins and even the helmut yokes on the old 290 style. It sure seems to stop the corrosion a lot better than other gease I have tried.
Not sure yet if I want to try it on those spiral splines on the props yet. Did a 36' Cat with twin D-6's in late August. Props had been on for over a year. Took a little mallet work, not much and they slid off easily. Even better than the older drives with straight splines. Was kind of impressed and relieved. I would sure hate to have to mess up one of those props....... They are so 'Purdy' when they are new. Just like their picture.

Originally posted by rodbolt:
DonS
careful with them pins, I just had to replace the bellows on one, after 3 months two of the pins had locked themselves in the aluminium.
man that drive needs to go on a diet![]()
.
what was funny is the tech rep was going on and on about the installer of the unit and the drive bellows had been installed with the word UP facing down

this particular unit seems vary bad for corrosion protection, and those killer spiral shaft splines will give me a headache one day. I can see that comeing.
but I agree with ya on the parts desk sometimes
its about as bad as some of the salesmens pitches.
