I can see that comeing.
but I agree with ya on the parts desk sometimes:) its about as bad as some of the salesmens pitches.
Just so we don't hijack racefan's post, I moved it here.
Those pins brand new fit in the bushings in the drive very tight, as did the bushings into the drive in the H bracket. Seems way too tight to be in salt water. I didn't use the grease Volvo sends with them, I have been using the Mercruiser "Anti-Corrosion" grease for pins and even the helmut yokes on the old 290 style. It sure seems to stop the corrosion a lot better than other gease I have tried.
Not sure yet if I want to try it on those spiral splines on the props yet. Did a 36' Cat with twin D-6's in late August. Props had been on for over a year. Took a little mallet work, not much and they slid off easily. Even better than the older drives with straight splines. Was kind of impressed and relieved. I would sure hate to have to mess up one of those props....... They are so 'Purdy' when they are new. Just like their picture.

they are purdy, volvo sent the guy a new set, his old ones,3 months, had pitted badly. I still say it was stray current electrolysis but every one sweras there is no shore power nearby.
and removing the suspension fork pins was an act of congress.
I built a tool and modified an air chisel punch to drive them in with an air chisel.
the trim ram pins are what almost got me. I spent 2 hours making them move.
lucky the volvo tech rep was watching the procedure and got my warrenty time adjusted. he could not believe it either.

is it me or is that drive heavy ?

Heavy????? They make a Bravo 3 feel like a lightweight drive. But it's only 165 lbs without the props on it.
I'm curious about his corrosion also. The ones I have seen have 0 corrosion on them. This includes some charter guys that do their own PM work.
Do you have any steel hulled boats near your guy? That could sure do it. Even a 14 ga. hot wire in the bilge could take out a drive. Might also check the ground system. There is a green wire inside on the port side that needs to be hooked up, along with the ground wire on the lower bolt on the shift cable bracket bolt. But since you had the Volvo tech rep there, I would imagine he checked them.

Re: Rodbolt regarding the DPH drives

I dont know, it showed up on the trailer.
all I was tasked to do was install a set of drive bellows, no sign of water intrusion upon removal, and the exhaust bellows that was torn.
but anywhere a stailess fitting was presant it was coated in white fluff.
I mean everything, line fittings and all.
I wanted to place it overboard and check it with the merc reference electrode. was overruled.
but it was surprising to see that much corrosion on a volvo.
tells me something is wrong with the installation or the dockage, the anodes showed no erosion.
about all I know about the engine is its a 6 cyl volvo diesel.
as bad as I hate diesels I am working a horn to go to volvo diesel school and get some info on the electrical and control systems.
funny thing was neither the tech rep nor the dealership had any service literature on the DPH drive. I made them fax the procedure to me before I would touch anything.
them grooved suspension fork pins are going to be difficult to remove after 2 or 3 years in saltwater.
overall I am less than impressed with the package.

I see shades of the bravo III debacle coming.
hope I am wrong.
not only did we not have the service manual we did not and still dont have the suspension fork guide tools. had to wrassle it back up by hand.

I told the dealership owner its the first and last ill ever do by hand.
wont happen twice.
