Rod holder

I have brackets that were on my boat for my old Bimini cover. My new cover mounts in a different spot (of course). I want to remove the old ones since no matter what, I catch some article of clothing on the damn thing every time I got on the boat. The mounting area is about 2 1/4" in width. Trying to find something that will be suitable. Would I be better off going with a flush mount (not sure how large of a hole I would need and if I have enough space) or I have seen plastic holders with a bracket of some sort that just bolts down with 2 screws. My question on those is if you can remove the rod holder from the mount so it's not there all the time. This bracket is right where we enter the boat from the dock. Pic of the existing bracket. Maybe there is some magic bracket I can use and not need to take off the old one :)

Those are all going to be too big though...the A measurement of 4 1/4" won't fit.

I use Driftmaster rod holders on my boats. Check their website as they have bases that "should" fit your boat. If you're going to troll, get the SS bases, they are stronger than the aluminum bases, look better too.

Pro and con is that they are removable. If trolling, the port side rod holder needs to be nutted from the bottom, or it will loosen when a fish strikes. I use a threaded rod coupler to nut the port side, makes it easy to get the nut on blindly. If you troll and don't have access to the underside if the gunnel (for bottom nutting the port rod holder), they might not be a good solution.

The 3/8" size if good for most uses, 1/2" pro version for big fish. There are other manufacturers making the same thing, or very similar.

If its right where you enter the boat, anything mounted there will be either a trip or slip hazard.

I suggest putting a non-slip stepping pad there, and find a different location for a rod holder.

Yes, with this type of rod holder, the top is removable, but the base is still there. Whats nice about them is that they can be mounted on a vertical, horizontal, or angled surface; and are adjustable both up and down, and side to side.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Not really an issue with it being there, more an issue with the type of what is there. The mount there now just catches on things, like shorts and pants. But the look of the mount above, looks like it would't really catch anything. Might go with those.

I have been looking around, and I think I am going to go with a Scotty Locking Flush mount and Power Lock Rod Holder. Seems to bne exactly what I am looking for, and it it 2x2 with a 1 1/2" center hole so that should fit my boat.

I have the Scotty flush mounts on my StarCraft 190. They save you from having to wear a Hockey athletic cup when boarding and won't cost you an arm, leg and other body parts. Good choice.
