I need help.I can't remove the rod cap from the crank .I need a torq socket. The best I could come up with is a quarter inch driv 11 thirty second socket.I don't have any torq's small enough and thin enough wall to get a good bite on the bolt.I have tried heat, napa, and snapon tools and mac tools on the internet. This is a 50 hp evinrude engine.Where can I get the proper tool.Thanks.

Re: rod bearing

Probably a 5/16 12 point socket. Check ebay for "Craftsman 1/4 inch SAE 12 pt set", or item 300039825945

Thanks for the info. The sise is 11/32 and a tight fit but still not move slips around it.I will try and ground down a 3/8 drive to get in.

Yep. And if the cheapy craftsman doesn't survive there's a Mac Tools one that will.

If you've got a 12 pt 5/16 box end wrench you can often use one to remove the bolt with a little grinding. But that doesn't address reinstalling them.

Any 2-stroke 50 I've ever had apart had 5/16" head rod bolts, 12-point. Don't monkey phart around with grinding down a 3/8 or 11/32. Get the right tool - your knuckles will thank you...
