I have a choice between a Rochester "economy" sender (I believe its the 7000 series) and a WEMA SS sender. The difference is the Rochester is the standard swing arm sender and the WEMA is a reed switch w/vertical float sender. Both work on the sandard resistance scale for fuel gauges.

The rochester sells for about $26, the WEMA sells for about $65.

Anyone have any experience with the WEMA sender?

Re: Rochester vs WEMA fuel senders.

Just a quick update....

I found some documentation that says the Wema sender has a more consistant reading than the Rochester (or any other lever & float systems) because the vertical float is less affected by sloshing of fuel in the tank.

I read an account by a Maxxim owner who switched to the WEMA because he saw that Maxxim switched to them and said it was a real difference between the old lever sender the the WEMA sender.

BTW, the tank I just ordered comes with the WEMA sender, so I'll let you know next summer if I like it better than the Rochester.

This summer I got a new tank, but the WEMA sending unit was on backorder. I installed the old Rochester like the one in your photo and went boating. I did notice the gauge moving about in the waves. When I finally got and installed the WEMA, I have noticed the gauge movement was greatly reduced. I am happy with it.

Thanks for that info. Always good to hear first hand personal experience with a product.
