Hey fellow iboaters,

A buddy and myself are hitting the road this Thursday (November 21st), we're heading to Rockwood, TN to pick up his new 2014 Interceptor 24SST. He ordered it from the local RV/Boat dealer as they offered the best price; however, he mostly dealt directly with Caravelle/Interceptor. He ordered the boat in Yellow with every option they offered (350 Mercruiser 300, Captain's Call exhaust, DVD/CD/iPhone stereo and fill-in cushions for bow/walk-thru transom.)

He ordered a Boat-Mate custom trailer that allows him to fit boat/trailer in his over-sized 3 car garage with swing away tongue. He previous boat (1999 Stroker) had a Boat-Mate and he really likes the quality and features. He ordered it with the ridiculous 18" wheel/tire combo as well. My buddy takes excellent care of his stuff (OCD type care) spares no expense for maintenance.

Anyway, I'll post some pics of it when we get it picked-up, water testing and return trip...marathon trip too. 2,488 miles in 3.5 days....

Thanks, we're both a little "off" so the trip should be fun!

LOL - you're heading to Roane County, TN. A little "off" is a requirement to transit the area ;0)

Actually, you're going to some really pretty country. Enjoy the trip. Watch yourselves draggin' her back over the plateau. There are a couple of grades on 40 that are a little steep.

Take advantage of where you are and splash her 'round here! Some beautiful water on Center Hill Lake just off I40.

Have a safe trip.

Thanks southkogs! Ironically my step-dad is from Tennessee, I've never been so I'm guessing we'll enjoy the scenery! My buddy's got a 2007 F250 powerstroke 4x4 crew cab with 18k original miles. It's lifted with nice topper, nice wheels and tires. It's should have the juice to go full tilt boogie at that elevation!? When I say he's OCD about maintenance....you should this garage queen of a truck?! He traded his '99 F250 in 2007 for it, he paid just south of $27k for the '99 and upon trade in they gave him $23k...of course it only had 23k miles on it. Guy has a company truck and only uses his vehicle for hauling his camper or boat...make's his wife drive her car for non-towing duties!

I'll snap some pics along the way and of course some young boat porn!

You bet - it's a beautiful state. It'll be a little dingy as "winter" for us is kinda' brown and dingy lookin'.

If y'all pick stopping points, give a shout and I'll try to suggest some "stuff to do" for ya. If you're into music at all, make sure you stop in Nashville for lunch/dinner. Lower Broadway will be worth it.

As an avid smoker/BBQ'er I'm always looking for a good BBQ joint...I've heard Nashville has some of the best? Any suggestions?

While I think my Q is 10x's better than most commercial places (you think I have a boating obsession...you should see my smokers...built 'em both...high-end commercial type with PID controls, fans and stainless steel)

Thanks,

Brett

Check THIS one out. It's been a while since I've eaten here, but it's supposed to still be one of the best. Total hole in the wall kinda' place.

Re: Roadtrip For A Boat

Better hope you can get the boat serviced locally. Have you talked with any local shops about working on a boat you bought 1200 miles away to save a couple of bucks? A lot of dealers will refuse to work on them or they'll get around to when they get the time.

You can complain, jump up and down saying that isn't right, but it's a reality.

I'm not sure as it's not my boat? I vaguely remember my buddy finding a local place (Denver anyway) that handles warranty stuff for Caravelle/Interceptor? It's a Mercruiser with bravo drive and we have an excellent local guy worse case scenario?!

He and I can handle all maintenance items. He's only had outboards and his tuner guy lives in New Mexico...not a big issue in our eyes. We plan on taking the water test Friday afternoon/Saturday morning, then having it winterized/wrapped and hit the road.

Definitely a point to consider, but a little late now?

Re: Roadtrip For A Boat

Brett, you are headed right to my back yard. My lake house is on Watts Bar Lake... just a stones throw from Rockwood. I would suggest you stop at eat at Buddy's BBQ... right off I-40 at the Kingston Exit. Awesome ribs a pulled pork. In fact, I had lunch there today. :)

I also like Jim & Nick's in Nashville, off of I-24S. It's a 10 minute south detour off of I-40 but well worth it. Whitts BBQ is good in Lebannon as well. Right off I-40, east of Nashville.

If I wasn't headed out of town myself, I'd host y'all down at the lake that night!

Travel safe, and BTW, the State Troopers are pretty thick between Nashville and Knoxville lately. Watch your speed and be wary of the bridge work as you approach Rockwood. Very narrow lanes.

Driving east from Memphis to Nashville on I-40 is like driving in a tunnel. There's absolutely nothing in between except Jackson and that's not saying much.

If you opt for this one, lemme' know … it's about 10 minutes from my office. It is good.

Re: Roadtrip For A Boat

So, we had a relatively drama free drive except between Kentucky and Nashville, bad accident we lost about an hour. We still made to the dealer in 20 hours. Too late for a water test in Friday, so we got a hotel room in Crossville, at at Lefty's BBQ (while the meat was tender, it lacked smoke flavor and was way to expensive for the amounts you got! I cannot recommend the place, ever! We had walk to the Pilot gas station and buy our own beer as they didn't serve beer...at least we were able to drink it the table with dinner!)

Any, water test is this morning?! Boat looks great...there's a few items the boat builder did that needs some attention (bad carpet seaming, bad sub-woofer install, etc). The Boat Mate trailer is the talk of the dealer! Just awesome thought out design, the way the boat sits, swing-away tongue, construction....it's an awesome trailer!

I'll update in a few hours with pics (if I can figure out how to post from iPhone?$
