Hey hello everyone... I?m new to boating and have a question, I have a 94 glastron g20 with a mercruiser 5.7 alpha 0ne .. would it affect in a bad way to my boats engine on a normal condition, If I keep the engine on for 30 minutes in the water without mooving? for example to take a break from wakeboarding and let the music on without wasting the battery.
thanxs in advance

What's there to hurt. The lower unit is in the water, water over the impeller, it pumps water to the engine....engine has a tstat to control the temp...at idle it's not going to require that much cooling.

Only thing would be to keep your ventilation blower on since you don't have any ram air into the air inlets to sweep out any fumes that could possibly accumulate in the bilge.

Apparently the gas consumed is not an issue.

Your question has been answered, but it doesn't make sense to run your engine for a radio.

As long as your carb is clean and in proper tune, it won't hurt a thing. But I have to agree with others, a 2nd battery would pay for itself pretty quickly if it's just to run the radio.

Ditto what Mark said....ESPECIALLY the BLOWER....but...as an added suggestion...2nd battery, battery switch..run the accessories off of 1 bat and save the other for the engine?

"WD" how about a dual battery setup w/ selector switch. You'll always have a fresh battery for cranking, won't burn additional fuel, or be putting extra hours of run time on the motor !!!

If you are going to be swimming you probably want the motor off also.

You could run that radio for MANY hours without draining the battery. Takes fairly little juice to play some tunes, but it takes a LOT to turn a V8 engine. Your battery should have lots of reserve capacity...I wouldn't even think about running the engine until after I ran the radio for at least 5 hours or so. That is, of course, if my battery was in decent shape.

I agree with the other 2.....second battery with selector switch and run the radio until 1 is dead save the other for cranking.....happy boating!

reduce the pollution. shut it off. and I don't know how your boat is rigged, but you can build up deadly carbon monoxide in the transom/swim platform area.

You wouldn't run your car just for the radio, would you?

PS every boat should carry jumper cables

Not if he's running one of those boom boom boxes of 500+ watts. That's 41 amps and it would take out the battery in no time.

You have a great point, Mark. I have the base stereo in mine with two cheap speakers. When I think of a radio that's what I'm thinking of...

I would guess that a system that's using a full 500w would cause hearing damage in short order. And if it's not turned all the way up it's not using all 500w.
