I purchase a 1978 Rinker V170 with 118hp Johnson. Condition is great and motor runs great. Here is the problem: After backing it in the water and off trailer, boat is leaning towards the starboard side. It gets much worse after I get in. Does not level out under power and when I let go of the steering wheel, it goes to the port very quickly.. any ideas?

Re: Rinkerbuilt V170

Adjust the trim tab on the motor just above the prop to counter the pull to port. Weight distribution is probably heavy on the starboard side. Position of batteries, live wells, storage etc affect how the boat sits. Adding your weight contributes to the problem Check for water soaked foam on that side of the boat as well. If you can't find any problems, then a set of Nauticus trim tabs wold likely help level the ride under way. They are fully adjustable and relatively inexpensive.

Bud, you're gettin a reply from one of the best here. The only thing I'll add is that you may also have a tensioner at the helm which will also help prevent wheel movement, but try the trim tab first. It looks like a rudder and is located directly above your prop. There's probably a bolt under a plastic cap located above it. Let us know how things turn out.

Re: Rinkerbuilt V170

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will pull it out of the water this weekend. Would do it now, but for some reason, "work" gets in to my fun!!
