ring tool

I just installed my piston rings compression is perfect had a battle with the compression ring tool is there a standard type one for outboards or is the 1 at the auto parts store my only hope

The ones at the auto store are the same, there is zero difference.The only thing is to get one that fits the piston. They come in lots of sizes (for weedeaters and Mack trucks),and most cover a wide range of sizes.<br /><br /><br />I like the ring compressors that use a 3/8" socket drive to expand and contract them. They are the easiest to use. However, the edges are very sharp,and care must be used when handling. They can cut like a razor (ouch) if misshandled.<br />They also must be kept in oil when not in use. This keeps it like new and ready to go 5 years down the road, when it's time to use it again. I keep mine in a large coffee can emmersed in motor oil...Same can with the hone stones in it.
