Hey guys

Iv'e got the crankcase cracked open and have soaked the connecting rod bolts for about 1 hour with PB. I have a nice snug fitting 12 point 5/16 and wanted to know how to remove it the right way without breaking them?

BTW to remove the pistons they cant come out the front of the case with the crank, they have to be removed from the crank and slid out the back right?

Thanks,
DamianJP

Make sure you have a good socket. I've always used Snap-On and you shouldn't have a prob. You do have to get the rods off before pushing out the pistons toward the cyl head side. I usually use a 12" breaker bar with the socket to loosen them.

Hey Boobie

Had a Craftsman 12point 5/16 and a 24" long breaker bar 1/2 inch drive. Use a 3/8" step down to a 1/4" step down then the socket. Only used half the breaker bar to make it 12".

It worked real good but can I trust using a step down when its time to torque it all back?

Thank You,

The step downs make no difference when torqueing. All your talking about is rotation. Just make sure you have the correct torque wrench and specs for the rod bolts.

And make sure the socket stays
square with the bolt.
