Here it is in all it's glory.

You can see the cracks in these wires. This is a problem with the entire wiring harness.
I really appreciate all the help with this project.
I had hoped to have this boat ready for spoonbill season here in MO. Hopefully I can get it back in the water before its over.

The little black box is a circuit breaker. It is not part of the original setup, that's why it isn't in the book. The terminal/fuse block is part number 377313 and is available. Price is $21.88.

Thanks. Any idea why someone would have installed a circuit breaker there? And how would you reset if it's tripped.

They are self resetting. Like on a vacuum cleaner. If they overheat they trip. 30 min or so later they click back. It's a good safety feature to have in there.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep it then.
I tell ya what; electricity has always intimidated me. So I've never really messed with anything too complicated. I usually try to buy new wiring harnesses for my hotrod projects. This seemed less of a pain than a car at first glance, but now I'm kind of wishing an aftermarket harness was available.

How about the terminal ends and connectors, guys? Are the common crimp style sufficient?

Boy, sure is quiet in this room, I mean topic.
What's the deal, tired of me already?
I bought 2 terminal blocks on ebay for 20 bucks today. Don't need 2, but that's what I got, so I have an extra.
So this is what it's like to talk, I mean type to yourself.:(

Hey, it's not that quiet... if you look at this section of the forum right now you'll see that this thread has the most responses...

I'd use crimp on connectors no problem... But others might differ...

I also would have no problem with the cracked wires you showed... But them I'm lazy and usually only repair once it's bust, I'm not great on preventative maintenance. But as I have a lot of engines I'd go broke otherwise...

And I like to work with electricity... And in boats and cars it's only 12v... nothing to worry about as in getting zapped... But lots of current and fire potential should you cross a couple of wires!

Well, I've tried to keep this thread alive, because I know someone else will have this same issue someday. So hopefully that person can find this thread and get answers to their Q's. It's a pain to sift through thousands of these threads just to find a simple answer, then having to start a new thread just because you get tired of sifting.
So do you think I should solder those terminal ends or just crimp them?
As far as the wire cracking goes, this is a problem with the entire wiring harness. That particular wire goes from the solenoid to the cutout switch and is held there with a metal clamp bolted to the block. I don't know what would happen if it grounded to the block, but I don't want to find out with that one or any other for that matter. I have a 13 year old son that is my fishing partner and I'd hate to have a fire on-board.
It's not the electricity that bothers me with these projects, it's just getting everything where it belongs.

Re: Rewiring an old motor

Hi GST! I got 2 similar motors and have had good luck searching for needed parts at my local boatyards . The local "good 'ol boys" kinda place.Forget the new BRP showroom at the watersedge (unless your best friend owns it:D).
When your wires get like that, I'd replace em. They will only make bad things happen. And bad things usualy cost alot!

Good advice. I'll have to check locally and see if there are any around here.
Unfortunately all my friends are in the same "boat" as me. No money and an old boat.
