Reverse 454 Backfiring

I have a 454 reverse engine I put new carb and coil on it it idles fine no smoke when under a load it pops and back fires through carb.

Was the carb and coil replacement because of the backfiring?

Did you swap out the plug wires ? Firing order is different than a standard rotation . I would start with the plug wires. If it wasn't popping before then you better backtrack whatever you replaced . The carb may be dumping fuel into it because the float / gasket or needle and seat are messed up , who rebuilt the carb ? What was wrong with the coil ?

Assume carb was replaced due to runability issues - did you check fuel supply issues plugged pick up tube screen change filter ?
