Wouldn't you be able to live like a king in Mexico? Greenbacks go along way...

For a few years, Ive been looking at Thailand, Vietnam, Ecuador and a few others, I keep in mind health insurance/dental and low rent/house cost , I'm a younger retiree (since I was 52 - work related), not rich by any means, but kids all gone, own house and no bills, now I just need to get rid of the gf, I'd be happier - although central Texas is great :)

I knew a Navy buddy who went to Costa Rica. Haven't talked to him in years but he loved it there. A lot of retired military where there back then and he was loving it.

Agree Mexico on the Pacific side does look good.

Have read up on Vietnam but can't make myself think about that one. Thailand others have been, but not so sure about the medical side. Ecuador is just to close to Columbia

Some of the places been reading that have great medical. Need to look it uo again but forget which one says you just pay 7 to 11% and that pays all the Meds. Would like a place that isn't to hot or cold. If it wasn't for the cold I would look at Canada

Brother in law spent a couple months in Panama and really likes it except for the heat

It’s always greener on the other side…..

I have been fortunate to spend most of my life globe trotting for a living. Have seen the best and the worst of the world.

Everything from exotic beachs of the South China Sea and Indian Ocean to the plywood and tin shanty towns of Brazil and Venezuela.

Have stayed in 5 star hotels and those ringed with barbed wire, guard dogs and armed guards.

The one thing I found in all my travels, no matter how good or bad the trip, my favorite part of the journey is “wheels up” on the way back to the good old US of A.

I have spent a good deal of time living in Ghana. I love it there, it is my “second home.” I will be heading there shortly, haven’t visited in 2 years and I miss it, the people, my friends. My wife and I have talked about your very question, and although we could live well on little there, we have too many attachments to our first home … kids, grandkids, friends, etc. In the end, it is a nice thought, but only a thought.

Lived in Mexico City for work and criss crossed the county. Its changed a lot and safety questionable for the last 10 years +. The retirement areas have traditionally been the Yucatán peninsula on the Gulf (around Merida is wonderful… but very hot in summer), the Pacific side starting a good bit south of the U.S. and ending around Zihuatanejo (stay away from Acapulco… its become a back and forth battle zone) and Baja California Sur. Stay away from the borders. Time will tell, but it sure seems the country’s gone the way of Columbia for those of us old enough to remember. Setting safety aside; food great, housing affordable, people great, weather delightful. Medical is two systems; public and private (this doesn’t mean “black/grey market”). In the tourist areas you won’t see much of a difference between the two. In the other areas and big cities, stay away from the public. Good care is appreciably less. Most Rx are handled at pharmacy and inexpensive.

The good thing is while were not rich, we don't need to find a cheap place. It would be a issue with the grand kids, but don't see them much now. FB is how we see them most, life just gets in the way I guess.

Why do you want to move to another country? And what are you looking for in another country, what things are important you you. The answers to those questions are key to answering your question.

Why do I want to or thinking about has no bearing
Like the English, water to play in and on, great medical, climate, good infrastructure

I believe Canada has terrible health care, that's why alot ventured south b4 covid. Universal Health Care. Supposedly. South Korea has the best according to 1 source. Just have to worry about rockets from N. Korea....

You have all that in the US so without knowing the reason for which you want to move can’t really suggest a place. Apparently the reason you wish to move from this great country is secretive and sensitive. Good luck I truly hope you find the country of your dreams.

I'm sure the dr's are fine, but the system isn't. That's all I'm going to say about that..... Let's not get into a big conversation about it. The OP mentioned healthcare....

I moved to TN almost 15 years ago. A rural area on the river about 50 miles from larger cities. We like the seasonal weather changes, rolling hills and most of all the river. After spending a lifetime in ATL I wanted some space.
About all I can say is don't wait too long, time flies while your thinking about it!

I'm sorry to hear that, no kid should have to go thru what she did, but like I said I'm not going any further with it.... Terrible was a poor choice of a word.
