Neighbors Motor been setting around from about the 80's which belonged to his dad
Asked if I would ck the impeller and it's needs for second life
Well first off have repaired a lot of OMC's as these vintage Merc's are a slightly different breed.
Guess my inquiry would be toward specs
First drained the lower unit which seemed very thin for gear lube ( no sign of milky fluid )
Leads me to ask if just 80 90 gear lube or 70 90 synthetic be better ?
then dropped the unit pulling the pump apart reveling a shredder impeller with sad looking seals
Found some assembly kit housings that are on their way
Next removed the flywheel, visually everything looked good
I'm guessing the coil ohm readings should be similar
that of an old johnson 5.5 or 6hp
Last question point gap as I read .020" and .018" on a phelon mag
Any input is appreciated
