I recently purchased an 0lder 79' Vip runabout and the Bimini top that came with it is actually in pretty good condition, except for the fact that it is very stiff and seems brittle enough that I could probably punch a hole through it. I'm looking for something to treat it with that would soften it back up and allow it to be more flexable and not so brittle. Anyone have a good idea?

Try a cold water and fabric softener soaking. It works great for stiff ropes.Hopefully your canvas is not too far gone to be saved.I havent seen too many brittle tops.Let us know how you make out. There really are not any other choices or fixes. :) Charlie

Buy a new top in the color of your choice and take care of it.

yeah, i agree with realgun, chuck it and get a new one. Even if you could re-furbish the old one, once the sun gets to it, it'l just crack up again. Then again, if the poles are ok, and you or someone you know is handy with the sewing machine,, just make a new cover and use your existing poles. cheers

When looking for new tops, look for suppliers that offer just the material and not the whole top. Will save a few bucks. I think iBoats carries replacement tops w/o frame.
