Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me. We just picked up an old Starcraft 12 ft aluminum boat which has no HIN. It has a bow cap with two stars and a pulley, and the logo is mostly missing. All that remains is the "C" and the end and tip of the arrow (arrow strikethrough logo). I have been googling for days and can't figure out the model or year. We plan to strip the paint and give it a nice new coat inside and out. The bow cap fits loose making me think that the wood on top around the hull (bear with me, I don't know the terminology) used to have an aluminum cap as well. The transom (this the back where the motor goes?) is wood with aluminum covering the outside but not inside and the corner pieces are wood but I think these also used to have an aluminum cap (with stars?). There are three ridges running down the bottom of the hull with the center ridge running full length the ones off center running about half way or just past. The biggest thing throwing me off is that all the pics ive seen of the old starcraft aluminum boats shows them constructed in such a way that they have the appearance of planks on the outside (and inside) but our boat does not have that appearance. It somewhat resembles the 50s sea kings that starcraft made for montgomery ward but idk if they were using the starcraft logo on those. Honestly, any insight would be wonderful. Currently my father-in-law is laminating boards to replace all the rotton wood around the top and we will be painting either this weekend or next. I'll post pics updating our progress. Since we r restoring, we want to make sure we do it right, so if anyone knows where I can get logos, that would be great. Other than that, a model and possible years would be excellent, and if anyone recognizes that model and can tell us what we are missing, that would be great too! Pics will be added as soon as I get to my computer-phone is not playing nice.

I believe you need to have a certain number of posts before you can post pictures. That may be why it is not allowing you to post them yet.

To skip over the required number of posts, upload your photos to a free hosting site such as Photobucket. Once up there, copy & paste the IMG tag into your post.

As for where to find the logos - you may have to resort to Evilbay or a salvage yard.

well, that's a strange policy. I don't use any sites like that, and after a few attempts to create a photobucket account, I apparently lack the patience to play the game of them telling me the username is unavailable, and then resetting all fields so I have to keep entering the same info over and over. Unfortunately, if I can't upload photos, it would appear that I have reached an impasse. :(

Welcome aboard.

Not strange at all, it's porn prevention. We had our share before adding the restriction.

You will be asked about adding photos after making your 3rd post, so click on Forum Help in the sig below and look at the Photo Tutorial. You don't need Photobucket or any photo hosting site, it's simply easier to add photos to your posts. The tutorial has other methods to use.

While you're clicking in the sig, click on the Starcraft Forum link and look at the Main Starcraft Stickie and look at the Brochure link. Go way back, pre-1972 since your boat has no HIN which began in 1972.

If such things as photo posting in a new to you forum makes you at an impasse lets hope it's just net frustration because working on these old tinny's like yours can be a bit frustrating at times.

I sent one of those logos off to another forum member so he could sand cast it and make new ones. Those logos were on SC boats in the 60's up to about 70.

Welcome aboard

Watermann, yes-yesterday was net frustration, lol! I found myself going down the internet rabbit-hole going through pics and specs trying to figure out what model and year of boat we have. For most of the day I was looking at the wrong type of StarCraft models because I didn't realize how much was missing.

I found a blog by a person who restored a StarCraft who directed me to this forum, but he also has friends who are StarCraft enthusiasts and I sent him pics of the boat. From what we can tell, it appears to be a late 1950s (early 1960s?) Speedster Runabout which was fully stripped down to the hull and bench seats, lol! We were able to locate the old rivet/bolt holes where the bow piece (makes it a closed bow-don't know the name) was removed from the hull, and where the plywood bow support was removed.

We bought it just to have a fishing boat so we can take the kids fishing, and originally planned to just repair & paint, but then the mystery of the boat's make, model and year sucked me in. When we told my father-in-law what we had found out he started making plans for fully restoring the boat, being a retired machinist/carpenter he might be able to make the pieces which were removed and can no longer be affordably found, so a full restoration may be a reality.

I always knew StarCraft's are fantastic boats, but I didn't realize there was such an amazing community dedicated to them. It only took me one day to fall in love with our boat, the brand, and the vision of what our boat should be and what it could be again. I don't think we'll ever get rid of this boat, and I could see us doing this again in the future.
