I just bought a Lowe Semi-V Jon Boat and it is a 92' model. I've bought older Jon Boats before that simply needed a new paint job and that was their only hope but I'm thinking this one just needs the oxidation removed. And there is a cleaned spot around where the license numbers were for the previous owner. It looks like it cleaned up good there and looks new. Anyways, what could I use on this boat to make it look new again? Because I think its a film that could be removed because there is still good paint there, it is just dull.

I'm confused, is your boat painted or bare aluminum?

Ayuh,... Ditto...

Bare aluminum won't stay polished, it starts to give itself a corrosion barrier, as soon as yer done...
That's what keeps it from turnin' to dust...

If it's Paint, polish, buff, 'n wax it...

Aluminum brighting is very common in the trucking industry. We wash our trailers daily because we haul food. Trailer brightener is available from most industrial chemical suppliers. ( Zep calls theirs Alum and Alum E. Works just like the old school mag wheel wash, before wheels were coated.

The type of trailer we brighten:

It is painted. I haven't looked into sharkhide. I tried waxing it with turtle wax but it left a white film that I had to scrub off with alcohol. Probably because it is for clearcoats on cars. I'm thinking about getting some Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish?

Possibly a light rubbing compound. to shine the paint. Forget the sharkhide aluminum stuff, forget the chemicals......it's painted.

If you read the page:"
SHARKHIDE Metal Protectant can also restore a shine to dead and chalky painted finishes
."

I was just about to post something to that affect lol ..

I did one better then Read the page.. I just got off the phone with one of there reps ..

He did not suggest wiping this stuff over chalky paint. In fact he recommended a clean wash down and then apply the product with a clean cotton diaper rag..then wait the next day..wipe some more on ..then possibly wait 3 days and put a possible 3rd coat. He also said that the product is not as good a paint job..or a pro buff job..

He also said that coating the paint where the Bunks ( or any wear area ) is a waste of time because it will wear off before you hit the water.

Another issue with this product is here .. Look .. http://www.sharkhide.com/METAL PROTECTANT MSDS.pdf

Some nasty stuff guys..

Its some kind of water thin coating that may or may not be ok with bare alum..but on paint.. hmm..

Anyways..Its paint.. you have to try to buff it out..or repaint.. IMO..

YD.
