my grandpa left me his boat it is a 1968 aristocraft 19 ft. it needs alot of work i put new exhaust hose on a new gimble bearing ext. motor runs great.
the floor on it seemed really weak with cracks in the fiberglass by the seats. so i figured it must have rotten members under the floor so i cut a hole in the floor and all i found was foam no members what so ever but the foam was all cracked and falling apart. there are no members what so ever in this boat it took me by suprize i was not expecting that. i guess the foam must be the only thing that gives this boat any structual strenth? so i was thinking about making some members out of wood and putting them in the bottom of the hull then screwing marine board on top for a floor. but how would i attach the members to the hull without screwing. my other idea was to bend some steal to the shape of the hull then coat the steal in avaition primmer then glassing it to the hull then glass the floor back in and fill it up with foam again. i have to fix some cracks in the hull that i noticed. the cracks are in the inside of the hull not on the outside. after i make the repairs is there a sealer or something i should put on? the hull seems kinda week like really flexable not like brittle. so thats why i was thinking of doing something to kinda reinforce it. or is that the way it is suppost to be. should i just fix the cracks inside and fill it up with foam again or should i make members and leave the foam out all together?
