About a month ago I picked up an old 12 ft Seaking v bottom aluminum fishing boat to play with for $120 off of craigslist. One of the previous owners had hit something and put a gash in it which the welded, poorly, and didn't bother fixing the resulting dent. So the first thing I well be working on well be to sand down the weld and start smoothing out the dent. Once that's done I well check to see if it leaks, has silicone on it now, and if it does a guy I knows owns a fabrication shop which can do a better job of welding it back up.
After I get that all figured out I well probably use half and half vinegar and water to clean it and do the floor with roll on bed liner to help make it warmer on the water and hopefully help keep it from making too much noise if I drop the anchor inside The seats also need attention, I figure I well sand them down, paint on a coat of epoxy and then wrap them in indoor outdoor carpet.
The nice thing is it came with a nice set of 6.5 foot oars and I have an early 50's vintage 5hp Gale Buccaneer to push it around as well. It fits nicely in the back of my truck so I don't need a trailer for it but I am going to weld up a rack to hold it up about a foot above the bed and get a roof rack for the bow over the cab. I am thinking about adding some handles to the transom for lifting and a cleat on the bow for securing the anchor line.
Before I do anything of course I need to secure the title, the boat went through 2 different owners between me and the original owner, none of which bothered to transfer the title. The good thing is I was able to track down the original owner, mind you they sold it 12 years ago, and well be sending them the paperwork for them to sign by the end of the week so that should be good.
Anyway enough with the hideously long first post, here are a few pics which I took when I first picked it up, the one where it is in the back of my truck you can see the dent and weld.
