restoring 1958 johnson supersea horse

i'd like to refinish my outboard motor.i would like to completely remove all the paint.i thought about sandblasting it ,but i'm not sure,any suggestions?

Is this a cosmetic restore only or a mechanical one also?

i would besure it is mechanically good before painting. lower units are known to be bad at that age.

this is a cosmetic restore. the motor works fine.
