Guys,
I can get this boat for nothing and only pay a small appreciation fee (that I choose) if I can get a running boat out of it.
I'm finding out the year and exact model by this evening so you will know more. But what I have so far is this;

1984
16' Thundercraft tri-hull
60 hp Mariner outboard

Trailer has literally rusted out from under the boat. But I have another trailer for it.

Upholstery in the bow and back to backs are pretty much shot and will need replacing or recovering.

Floor feels solid (not a lot of wood in the construction of that hull from what I can tell so far)
Carpet is old and will need replacing, although not immediatly.
Padded side panels A-OK with no tears or splits.

Hull looks fine except for some superficial damage where the fender on one side has gouged the gel coat in a quarter sized area. Overall gel-coat condition is dull but not too bad.

Transom sounds and feels solid, but I know you can never really tell.

Motor was running fine when the boat was parked back in 2002 when the owner replaced it with a Bayliner. I just hope it hasn't been left to freeze. Even SC gets cold sometimes.;)

So, with no initial costs up front, do you think this could be a worthy project? Are Thundercraft boats good boats in general?

Go for it! The outboard alone is worth money. I would take it on as a project.

Nothin' wrong with a free boat, as long as you think you'll like it and enjoy it. Good luck....

go for it. the worst, case is you will have another trailer. and engine to sell. can you launch your present boat long enough to get this one home on you trailer?. if not rent a flat bed from uhaul, roll it up on it, and bring it home.

I've got another trailer rated to 1,200 Lbs. I'm not sure if it would be enough for the 16' Thundercraft or not since I'm having zero luck finding any info on that boat such as the weight. I can't imagine it weighs much more than 1,200 Lbs but I could be way off on that. I'm waiting on info from the original owner who also said he'd loan me a spare trailer if mne wouldn't work..
He's quite a guy, a retired golfing buddy of my dad's.:)

My hull is 16.5 feet, a trihull, and had a dry, unrigged, engine-less weight of 1150 pounds from the factory. If your hull has no engine or any rigging, I would bet it would be similar. If your boat is rigged out, I would guess 1600-ish. Good luck...

i think your trailer will get it home, if it's not far or fast.

I wonder if anyone can help me identify this boat. It was listed as a 1985 Charger Tri Hull, Center Console 16' boat. It does have 3 original plaques on it that say Charger, one on each side and one on the front of the center console.

Any help out there.

There should also be a hull id number on it somewhere. It's usually stamped into the gelcoat on the transom somewhere, but it could be in other places. It's on the bow of my Crosby.

Ok here we go. The ID number on the transom is as follows:

CDG02017M76

Where do I go from here in identifying the manufacture, etc.. The specification plate on the console is so faded that you cannot read it.

Thanks
