Re: why does my windows xp slow down sometimes?

My MB has a heat seak soldered in I don't know what it serves, the on-board video processor maybe? Anyway I salvaged a cpu fan from an old computer and put it on that heat sink, and bingo, problem solved.

Thanks to all who chimed in.

PierBridge, I did freqently check the tasklist and found no Norton processes or services, not sure whether that's a definitive answer though.

Drrockter, I encountered spyware & adware a few years ago, ever since I've been pretty vigilant about it, I didn't install anything to replace Norton, but I have been on the lookout for that stuff.

boatsource,
* yes it does loose time, computer on or off...I'm going to replace the battery...I have been wondering if slow time clock = slow cpu clock speed - if you know the answer please tell me.

* two fans, one on the case one on the cpu, both operational...but one or both spins up fast on powerup then slows, and never speeds up again, making me wonder if a heat sensor has failed. XP is the original installation, December 2004.

* yup, that worked, and led me to my final solution.

thanks all!
