I would like to see everyones opinion on the best ALL-AROUND resin for REPAIRING stringers, transom and deck soles on your average 15' to 20' recreational / fishing boat for the average do-it-yourselfer. It's obvious that they each have many pros and cons i.e. cost, workability, strenght etc. but I'm interested in seeing the bottom line to get the job done and YOUR reasoning. NOT trying to start a debate so just YOUR points and thought process PLEASE! This could be helpful to the rookies like myself. THANKS FOR THE INPUT!

Also,... I'm not doing a complete restoration but still plan on posting about my repairs as I haven't seen many flat bottom skiffs up here. Do I still title it as restoration so it will go into the completed "restorations' section of the forum...(someday)?

Well you're going to get many sound opinions on the epoxy vs poly question. So I'll start with mine. I've ton plenty of repairs and restores and have never used anything but polyester resins with no problems at all. I can't speak for epoxy as my experinece with it is not just limited but very tiny. I know the epoxy is stonger, but your boat is built with polyester resin and it holds up just fine. The main thing is prepreation of the surface to be glassed. Read read read, tons of good information here about both products. The bottom line choice will be yours.

Good luck.

Thanks Cadwelder!

I tried making this a poll. Checked poll and entered number then entered the three resins, submitted post and still no poll. I did something wrong? Any ideas because when I went in to edit it the "POLL" option isn't availible......

Polls are a waste of time....just ask your questions and they will be answered.

It won't make a difference which resin you use, they will all hold up just fine......and have been for many decades.

You have FOUR threads running at the same time. We have about 725 pages of restoration information. PLEASE use the search and try to stay in one thread instead of starting a new one with every question. It will make things easier to follow.

My apologies! Will do in the future.
