A short time ago I asked if anyone could recommend a standard pump to replace the VRO on a 1985 Evinrude 120. I appreciate the responses but there was nothing definitive. A little research showed that the 1975 135HP V4 motors used a standard pump. I fitted this pump and so far no complaints.
I have now fitted the same pump to a 1984 115hp Johnson and it appears to run just fine. Pump part number changed to 438559. Price about $80.
Hope this is useful information.

That early high performance pump should work just fine in that application. It's one of the only pumps around which will adapt to the hose barb pulse line in the side of the block.
