Replacing Trim Tab Actuators

Replacing my Insta-Trim actuators since one is leaking.

Curious why they are installed with a plastic pressed pin at the pivot points? Seems like a stainless bolt/nylock nut would be much easier. Is there a good reason to not go that route?

It's a 26 foot cruiser, not kept in the water.

I can think of two good reasons...... Galling (SS) and galvanic corrosion


I'm a firm believer in don't fix what is not broken

Why not unscrew the 2 piece cylinder and replace the two O rings ?
