can this be done without disassembling the case? can i remove the carrier and outter shaft without pulling the driveshaft? i have found several videos on changing the outer shaft seal but nothing on the inner.
when i look at the manual, it appears to all come out from the prop side. the way i see it, i need 2 tools other than the spanner wrench,
91-805374 &

91-8053741

hoping someone can help with this

IIRC, the bearing carrier needs to come out, then the outer prop shaft. I have some pictures on page 2 of my thread (link below)

https://forums.iboats.com/threads/bravo-iii-aahhh-phooey.644959/

Make sure to have the Bravo service manual as your guide. The bearing carrier (reverse threaded) will come out over the drive shafts. If you are replacing one seal, you may as well do both seals.

Can replace both propshaft seals without removing the drive from the boat

I prefer doing the seals this way, helps support the drive for the removal/install of the retainer and carrier requiring high torque

Once the job is done then remove the drive for pressure test, lube fill and transom assy inspection/maintenance

thanksfor the reply guys, do i need both those tools? the book really does not spell it out too well.
im unclear as to where the 2 different tools come into play.
91-805374 &

91-8053741

and the 805382 retainer tool.
it looks to me like i only need the 5374
but i have never done this before.

from the merc manual:
7. Remove outer propeller shaft bearing retainer, by turning clockwise, using outer propeller shaft bearing retainer tool.
a - Bearing Retainer Tool (P/N 91-805382)
b - Bearing Carrier Tool (P/N 91-805374)
c - Bearing Retainer
8. Remove inner and outer propeller shaft assembly from gear housing

In order to properly remove/install the seals the propshafts need to be on a bench. I use a small slide hammer to remove the seals. Too risky with damaging the carrier housing cavity with a seal puller

You will need the special tools to do this job correctly

Many disagree but no way I would try and replace the seals without removing the shafts. Need the tools to remove carrier and seals
https://forums.iboats.com/threads/looks-like-im-getting-into-bravo-outdrive-repair.617342/

Would replace with the single double seal and not the 2 individual seals

As always my opinion, many others will vary
so alldodge, I looked at your post, WOW, you dug deep.
am i correct in thinking i need all 3 tools ?

Bearing Carrier Tool (91-805374--1)

Bearing Retainer Tool (P/N 91-805382)
Bearing Carrier Tool (P/N 91-805374)

or is there a new version of the retainer tool that does both jobs?
other than pullers is ther anything else i need to do this job?

I don't know of a newer version for the tools
Need the 2 piece bearing retainer tool for the inner shaft and the other for the outer carrier

You need to remove both shafts. When removing keep track of the shims and make sure they go back in the same way and number

Should work if made the same and distance from center to 1/2 drive opening

It probably is but the distance matters when using torque wrench calculations

Most likely it is correct
