Looking for advise on replacing/ cleaning boat top snaps. They are 30 years old and are looking tired.
Some snaps are screwed in, some riveted, some are flat out gone. Whats the right steps in replacing or cleaning up those that are there. Curious as to what folks out there have done.

Are u referring to the snaps on the canvas or the part on the boat? You can buy all of these parts and redo them. The ones on the canvas require a special tool to put the snap together.Kinda pricey tool though. You may be better off purchasing an entire kit which has an assortment of snaps and attachments to a locking priers specific to each snap.Charlie

Ayuh,..... That depends,.....
If the hole is over-sized, fill it, 'n redrill it,.....
If the rivet just rotted out,.... Just replace it,....

Most should be able to unscrew and just screw in new.Dont overtighten .Dont use 42 or 5200 sealant as it wont lock it in.I always had success filling the hole with gelcoat repair and hand screwing in the snap while curing. Not the perfect way of doing it but quick and effective.Charlie

I've filled holes with a marine epoxy (e.g, PC-11 or Marine Tex) and then drilled and screwed in the snaps. Worked great.
