Replacing Rub Rail

Decided to paint the boat a couple weeks ago and in order to get a paint job I decided to remove the rub rail. Rub rail was riveted to the hull and after drilling off the heads I found that I could not easily push the remaining rivets through since they are behind carpeting that runs up the inside and also the rivets are somewhat disfigured. I was planning on using screws to put back on and was wondering if the rivets added any support to the construction of the hull assemblies of the upper and lower sections since some of the rivets were behind the rail. Anyone have any insight into how these hulls are assembled and fastened together?

Re: Replacing Rub Rail

On the standard production boats I've done,....

The Hull halfs are rivited together,+ then the rub rail is rivited Over the seam..........

Some of the Better boats,.....
The hull halfs are Glued/ resined together,+ the rubrail is rivited/ screwed into place........

You'll have to deside Which you've got......

As long as the Seam has it's Integrity,.... There's No Reason you can't reattach the rub rail with Screws.........
