I have a 1969 Johnson 55hp model # 55ES69. This motor had been sitting about a year and a half when I acquired it. I had it started for about a minute and a half when if shut off suddenly. I checked spark and it had none. Upon visual inspection the spark plug wires looked frayed and burned up. I went to pull one off and it appears it tore in half where it goes up under the flywheel. I am new to boating and outboard repair. I have a manual but I cant find how to go about changing the plug wires. Where do they connect and and do I have to pull the flywheel to replace them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: replacing plug wires

The wires ucscrew from the distributer cap and I believe still available from a Johnson/Evinrude dealer. But I doubt that all the wires went bad at once. Need to do a little more checking. A service manual would be a good place to start for troubleshooting.
